University of Michigan Engineering students take part in a wide range of activities that extend learning beyond the classroom and connect them with communities across the College and U-M. From design teams and professional organizations to arts, music, cultural groups and community-focused spaces, these opportunities help students build practical skills, explore interests and form lasting relationships. Whether you want to test ideas, develop as a leader or find people who share your experiences and passions, there are many ways to get involved.
Student organizations & activities
Over 180 engineering-affiliated student organizations call Michigan Engineering home. Whether you’re drawn to one of our student design teams or looking for other engineers who share a passion or community, you can showcase your unique talents through a variety of interdisciplinary activities. All are aimed at strengthening teamwork and cooperation.

Fraternity & Sorority Life
One of the University’s longest traditions, fraternity & sorority life will welcome you into a family away from home, creating opportunities and friendships that will last for years to come.
The legacy of Greek life at U-M dates back to 1845, when two national fraternities established chapters in Ann Arbor.
Today, almost 5,000 students are involved in the Greek Community, with many unique and culturally diverse fraternities and sororities available to anyone.
Music
We share a campus with the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, in a town dedicated to local artists. You are surrounded by chances to get involved with music.
Michigan Engineers compose more than one-third of the Michigan Marching Band. Students interested in playing percussion, brass or woodwinds, or in being a flag bearer, are encouraged to audition and join this musical legacy.
Beyond campus
Studying abroad is a great way to take you out of your comfort zone, challenge you to think differently and build skills you’ll use for the rest of your life.
