Living on North Campus
North Campus is home to the majority of Michigan Engineering facilities, classrooms, and laboratories, alongside facilities for art, music, and design. Many first-year engineering students choose to live in U-M Housing residence halls on or near North Campus—such as Baits II or Bursley Hall—making it easy to connect with classmates, attend events, and become part of the engineering community. The Northwood Community Apartments offer graduate and family housing within walking distance of North Campus.
Getting around campus and Ann Arbor
While engineering students may spend much of their time on North Campus, they have easy access to Central Campus and the broader Ann Arbor community by walking, biking, driving, or riding the bus. Free U-M Campus Transit buses, called the Blue Buses, connect North and Central Campus in about 10-15 minutes, making it easy to get to classes, libraries, dining, student activities, and other campus resources. Students with a valid M-card can also take TheRide, Ann Arbor’s public bus system, at no cost.

The Maize & Blue Cupboard provides free food to anyone with a University of Michigan ID.

At Michigan Engineering, we know we have a responsibility to ensure everyone can teach, work and learn without barriers. The College works with U-M Information Technology Services Accessibility team and the Disability Equity Office to ensure access and take a proactive approach to issues.
