Majors & minors

Explore your undergraduate degree options

The University of Michigan College of Engineering offers 18 undergraduate majors across 13 departments, all leading to a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) degree. Explore different fields of engineering and discover a path that connects with your interests, strengths and goals.

Choosing your engineering major

All first-year Michigan Engineering students begin as undeclared, giving you time to explore the possibilities before selecting a major. Through advising, courses, hands-on experiences, and conversations with faculty and peers, you can find the engineering path that is the best fit for you. After completing general courses your first year, you will declare a specific major by your third term.

Already have a major in mind? Your interest may lead in more directions than you think. An engineering academic advisor can help you clarify your goals and choose a path that fits.

Expand your undergraduate experience

Get your Master’s faster

Through the Sequential Undergraduate-Graduate Studies (SUGS) program—sometimes referred to as a combined BS/MS degree program—you can earn your Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in as few as five years.

Minors

Engineering minors are an optional but often beneficial way to study beyond your major. Beyond that, you also have the option to pursue any minor through the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and many other colleges on campus.

Dual Degrees

If you’re considering pursuing an additional engineering degree beyond your current major, a dual degree could be an option. Explore eligibility criteria and application deadlines, then talk to academic advisor to make sure it’s the right academic path and fit.

Experiential Learning

Connect with people, places and hands-on projects through our experiential learning framework, called Immersed, which is a core part of the Michigan Engineering undergraduate experience.
