Mobility

Our world is changing. More people than ever call our world home, and some days it seems all of them are on the road at the same time. We need safer cars, safer roads and more efficient systems to ease the strain on our environment and improve quality of life.
University of Michigan researchers work to make Ann Arbor the first American city with a shared fleet of connected and driverless vehicles by 2021.
Our Efforts
The U-M Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) harnesses the expertise of Michigan Engineers and their University colleagues, joining with industry and government to drive innovation. UMTRI leads the connected vehicle race with MCity, a groundbreaking model connected-car city, and drives progress toward safe and sustainable transportation.
