How to Apply

The college application process takes time and effort—and a lot of information. Even once a decision is made to apply to a school, the process for doing so can be daunting. Let us demystify the experience.
Application Deadlines
- February 1: Fall Term
- October 1: Winter Term
International transfer applicants enrolled at a school outside the U.S. are encouraged to apply for Fall Term to allow enough time for Visa processing.
The Paperwork
Application Materials Required
- The Common Application and U-M Transfer supplement
- Application fee
- Official college transcripts from all institutions attended
- Final High school transcript or GED
- Resumes
- APP/IB test scores sent electronically from College Board- if applicable

Materials Not Required
- The Common Application College Official’s report
- The Common Application Instructor Evaluation
- The Common Application Secondary School Report
- The Common Application Mid-Term Report
- Letters of recommendation—accepted, but not required
Test Scores
- Official results of ACT or SAT test—optional if available, but not required
- Official TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS test scores—required for non-native speakers of English
- AP scores from College Board—if applicable
- IB transcript from IB Office—if applicable
- Certified copy of A-level results—if applicable
Other Requirements
- Applicants with college credit from any international College or University may also be asked to supply course descriptions and syllabi in English, or accompanied by an English translation for all college-level coursework in math, science, programming, and English or composition. Course information should be sent to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.
- International students requesting F-1 or J-1 Visa status must submit the following documents at the time of application, or as soon as possible after receiving an offer of admission:
- Michigan Engineering Financial Resources Statement (FRS)
- Financial backing documents
- Copy of biological page of passport
- Copy of current I-20 and I-94 card if studying in the U.S.
- Completed Transfer-In Form if transferring from another U.S. school
