A DEI culture shift

In a letter to the community, Dean Gallimore shares a plan to tackle systemic racism.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
As a college, our dedication to academic excellence for the public good is inseparable from our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. A vibrant, inclusive climate helps us leverage our strengths and make the most of our collective capabilities.
Our community includes people from different races and ethnicities, genders and gender identities, sexual orientations, ages and socio-economic backgrounds. We speak different languages, come from different cultures and countries, practice different religions. We have different abilities and disabilities, different political perspectives and life experiences.
The college has received bronze-level status from the Diversity Recognition Program of the American Society for Engineering Education. The program commends engineering colleges that are making significant, measurable progress in increasing diversity, inclusion, and degree attainment outcomes. It is currently the highest recognition ASEE offers.
We’re all different, and that’s good.
That’s part of our strength. Diversity broadens our perspectives and paves the way for innovation. We’re working to ensure that all members of our community have the opportunity to participate fully in all the college has to offer without worrying about facing bias, harassment or discrimination. Respectful awareness helps each of us bring our best and work together for the common good.
