Ronald D. McNeil

Background and Experience

Under Mr. McNeil’s leadership, GBL is developing breakthrough innovations in the thin film capacitor and energy storage space.

Ron retired in 2007 after 31 years at Allstate Insurance Company.  He was a member on the 11-person Senior Leadership Team Board serving as Chairman of two Allstate Companies and President of four others. During his tenure, Ron led Corporate Relations and the Personal Lines Division (Product Operations); he also created the integrated Distribution Division and the Property Company.  His fiscal and leadership responsibility totaled over $30 Billion and 70,000 employees.

In addition to pricing and financial innovation, Ron created and launched the Neighborhood Partnership Program –a program that developed specific products for and fostered relationships with urban communities throughout the country.  The History Makers@ recognized him as a trailblazing African American History Maker in the insurance industry.  He was nominated for this distinction by CEOs from competitor companies.

Ron has served as a Distinguished Director for the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and a National Board Governor as well as a Midwest Trustee for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.  He is currently Chair Emeritus of the Detroit Urban Debate League and an Advisor for Valor Investment.

In 2002, Ron and his wife, Regina (ABEd ’73, Teaching Certificate ’73) founded The Ronald D. & Regina C. McNeil Foundation, Inc. — a private foundation focused on education.

“I am serving on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council because when Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are fundamental pillars in our personal and professional lives, our work is more engaging, thought provoking and productive.  The University of Michigan and the College of Engineering are committed leaders in DEI and I am honored to help deepen their commitment.”
