Placement Organizations
There are many placement organizations offering valuable services to help you find work abroad. Placement organizations provide a variety of services for a fee, and can include job placement, work permits/visa, housing, travel, etc.
IAESTE provides technical internships to students of engineering and science disciplines in any one of over 60 member countries worldwide. The IAESTE Internship Placement Program matches university students
majoring in technical fields with paid internships abroad. Positions
are available in industry, research institutes and universities,
consulting firms, labs, and other work environments. Most placements
are for 8-12 weeks during the summer, but fall and longer-term
placements are also available.

CDS offers personalized, high-quality intercultural training programs for students and young professionals. Internships are available in Argentina, Germany, and Spain for 3- to 12-months, depending on the program. In cooperation with partners, CDS is able to tailor internships to applicants' skill sets and career goals. In addition to individualized internship placements, participants also receive assistance with language training, resume writing, pre-departure cultural and logistical issues, as well as in-country and re-entry support.
AIESEC provides internships from 6 weeks to 18months in over 90 member countires. While many types of internships are available, there are many technical opportunities for engineering students. Each year, AIESEC provides over 5,500 members the challenging opportunity to live and work in a foreign country in areas of management, technology, education, and development.
The American Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) provides technical internships in the Scandinavian countries. The ASF Training Program gives American college students and recent graduates the chance to get an insight into the cultures and peoples of Scandinavia. Recent opportunities include chemical engineering in Sweden, and placements at the Finnish Forest Research Institute at its research labs and field stations throughout Finland.
International Cooperative Education Program (ICEP) can set engineering students up with technical internships in several countries. ICEP arranges internships with a wide range of employers, from global leaders to small family owned businesses. Students gain first-hand experience of what it is like to work overseas. Some placements require language skills, others are available in English.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is pleased to announce that for summer 2010 we will again offer the RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) and RISE professional programs. Scholarships are awarded to American and Canadian undergraduates (RISE) and graduate students (RISE professional) in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences (geology), and engineering. RISE has established itself as an outstanding opportunity to combine serious research with a rewarding study-abroad experience.
