Interviewing

Prepare for Interviews

Use the career counseling services of the ECRC to prepare for interviews. ECRC counselors are very good at providing targeted approaches aimed at making sure you effectively communicate skills and experiences.

Utilize Optimal Interview on the University of Michigan’s Career Center website to practice interviewing by responding to pre-recorded questions. Optimal enables you to video or audio record your practice interviews. Don’t forget you can always meet with an ECRC Career Counselor to review your Optimal Interviews.

References

Identify three to six trusted people who are willing to provide a professional reference for you. Contact these individuals and confirm their willingness to support you.  Provide a copy of your current resume for their reference.  Explain what you want to accomplish and be clear about the topic areas you would like them to highlight about you.  Obtain accurate and complete contact information and prepare this in a format that can be quickly and easily provided.  Let these individuals know as soon as you give their names to anyone.  Be sure to follow up concerning the outcome of your internship search and acknowledge their support.
