The Women's History in Michigan Science and Engineering Project (WHIMSE)

The Women in Science and Engineering Office is collecting and preserving the oral histories of University of Michigan alumnae in the sciences and engineering. Our special emphasis is on the experiences of women in science and engineering, the physical sciences and medicine as students at the University of Michigan.

The collection of the oral histories documents the scholarly contributions of alumnae and captures their interpretations of social, technological and political eras reflected in their own habits, beliefs and priorities. Of special interest is how the University of Michigan experience shaped their lives and contributed to their development as professionals and citizens.

These interviews are conducted by individuals trained in the methods ascribed to by the Oral History Association. The interviews will be transcribed, edited and archived at the Bentley Historical Society on the University of Michigan campus.

The interview subjects inspire current and future generations of students by their example and provide concrete strategies to help students define and achieve their own success.

If you are interested in participating in the project or would like additional information, please contact Kate Waggoner at (734) 647-7012 or Debbie Taylor at dpoet@umich.edu or at (734) 647-7012.
