- What is the average course load?
An average of 16
credit-hours per term allows a student to complete degree requirements in 8
terms, or 4 years of study.
- What are the job placement opportunities for U of M students?
The Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) offers a variety of services such as job fairs, workshops and recruiting events to prepare students for the professional world.
- Can engineers study abroad?
- What computer facilities are available for students?
CAEN provides access to hundreds of computers throughout campus in various computer labs (CAEN). These labs are available to the College of Engineering students 24 hours a day. Each CAEN computer offers hundreds of software applications for student research and course work, including an extensive selection of engineering, multimedia and software development programs.
There are also ITCS computer labs (ITCS) all over campus. These labs can especially be found on Central Campus and are the ones in Residence Halls (see ResComp sites).
Also, wireless and wired network access is available throughout campus for personal laptops.

- What are common modes of transportation?
The transportation system on campus and in and around Ann Arbor is very convenient and free for students. This includes the on-campus bus and the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority.
- How safe is the campus?
- U-M employs its own security and police force who patrol the campus and
work with the city of Ann Arbor to make our campus as safe as possible.
There are Emergency Campus Phones located at key sites on campus that
upon pick-up connect directly to Public Safety. A late night service
called S.A.F.E. WALK/Night Van provides transportation to and from
student housing areas to campus. For more information, please visit the Department of Public Safety's website.
- What is the distance between North Campus and Central Campus?
- Approximately 2 miles. Most students use the U-M Bus system to travel between North and Central campus.
- Are freshmen guaranteed on-campus housing?
Yes, housing is guaranteed for all entering freshmen that submit the housing application by the deadline. Housing information is sent to students who have paid enrollment deposits. More information about housing options, meal plans and virtual tours are available on the Housing website.
- What kind of help is available for an international student far from home?
- The University of Michigan has a comprehensive International Center that offers assistance to international students.
