Program Descriptions

Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) is a residential program for current 7th and 8th grade students. The SEP curriculum includes mathematics, engineering concepts, communication skills, and academic study skills. Introduction to and use of various computer applications is integrated into the curriculum. Also, students participate in engineering exposure and enrichment activities which help them gain a better understanding of the field of engineering and its disciplines. Other structured activities allow participants to interact with engineering role models, university faculty, staff, and students. SEP provides opportunities that help students learn about the college environment and enhance skills that are important to success in science and engineering preparatory courses.

Michigan Introduction to Technology and Engineering (MITE) is a residential program for current 9th and 10th grade students. Participants will study mathematics, engineering concepts, communication skills, and academic study skills in regularly scheduled classes. Prior computer experience will play a major role as a supplement to classroom instruction. In addition to the core academic courses, MITE students will have the opportunity to interact with engineering role models through field trips, speakers, and enrichment activities conducted by university faculty, staff, and students. A guidance component will focus on preparation for the college experience, including information about admissions, financial aid, and success skills needed to do well in high school, as well as college.

Summer College Engineering Exposure Program (SCEEP) is a residential program for students who will be high school seniors in the upcoming school year. It provides exposure to the University of Michigan, with a special emphasis on the College of Engineering experience. Participants gain insight into the various engineering majors that are offered by the College. They also participate in departmental tours and interact with faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and engineering students. Campus tours and activities introduce participants to the campus environment. Special workshops address academic success skills necessary for the smooth transition from high school to college. Other presentations acquaint participants with admissions and financial aid information, as well as the many support services and resources available to University students.
