List of Available Awards and Honors
The following College awards and prizes are presented at the annual Student Leaders and Honors Brunch. Not all awards accept nominations. Please consult the nomination form for those awards that accept student nominations.
College Leadership Awards
The Distinguished Leadership Award is conferred upon College of Engineering students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the College, University, and community. Award: Gift
The Harry Benford Award for Entrepreneurial Leadership is presented to an undergraduate or graduate student who has exhibited entrepreneurial flair and leadership ability and who has capitalized effectively on the technological and engineering resources available in the College of Engineering. Budding inventors, small business owners, community volunteers, and team project, club, and society leaders all exemplify the spirit of this award. Award: $5,000
The Arlen Hellwarth Award is presented to two undergraduate student leaders who have made valuable contributions to the College, University and/or community. Award: $500/each
The Epeians Emerging Leader Award is presented to a second year undergraduate student who has made valuable contributions to the College of Engineering community. The recipient will demonstrate initiative by taking leadership roles within at least one student organization; seek opportunities and actively attempts to improve the College by creating positive change; and shows promise as a future leader in the College of Engineering. Award: Gift
The Elaine Harden Award was established in 1991 in recognition of the Engineering student society that best exemplifies the ideals of Epeians, an Engineering leadership society that recognizes dedicated leaders, develops and motivates leadership, and encourages service. Award: $500
The Outstanding Student Group Advisor Award recognizes the efforts of advisors of student organizations. This award is presented annually to honor the leadership, guidance, and support advisors provide to student organizations on campus. Award: Gift
College Honors Awards and Prizes
The Distinguished Achievement Award are given to an undergraduate and graduate student in each degree program. Students are chosen by department and program faculty to recognize academic and personal excellence. Award: $500
The Mildred and Steele Bailey Prize is presented to an outstanding senior who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to the University and community. Award: $1,000
The A.D. Moore Award is presented to an outstanding sophomore and junior who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to co-curricular activities. Award: $2,000
The Marian Sarah Parker Prize is presented to two outstanding women (one undergraduate and one graduate student) who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to the University and/or community. Award: $1,000/each
The J.A. Bursley Prize is presented to a senior in Mechanical Engineering who demonstrates scholastic achievement, leadership in co-curricular activities, and unusual promise of developing into a leader in his/her profession and community.
The Clifton S. Goddin Prize is presented to a junior student in the Chemical Engineering department who shows exceptional merit, based on qualities of leadership and scholarship.
The Ivor K. McIvor Award is presented to a graduate student in recognition of outstanding scholastic and research performance in Applied Mechanics.
The Tau Beta Pi Awards are presented by the Tau Beta Pi-Michigan Gamma Chapter to two outstanding students who best combine the attributes of exemplary character and distinguished scholarship.
The Tau Beta Pi First-Year Student Award is presented by the Tau Beta Pi-Michigan Gamma Chapter to the first-year student who best displays exemplary character and achieves academic success.
The Roger M. Jones Fellowship Abroad was established to support an outstanding graduating senior in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. The Jones Fellow is required to pursue studies in literature and humanistic disciplines at a British University so as to broaden and deepen his or her undergraduate technical education in the College of Engineering.
The Arthur B. Singleton Prize is presented to an outstanding first year student (enrolled 9/08; minimum 12 credit hours) who demonstrates high scholastic achievement. Award: $3,000The Charles F. Barth Jr. Prize is presented to an outstanding sophomore who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities, and outstanding contributions to the University and community. Award: $5,000
The Henry Ford II Prize is presented to an outstanding junior who has demonstrated academic excellence. Award: $20,000
The Hugh Rumler Prize is presented to an outstanding senior on the basis of sincerity, integrity and goodwill; scholarship is desirable but of secondary consideration. Award: $5,000
