Special/Non-Degree

A special or non-degree student is a student who is enrolled at another college or university and is interested in taking engineering classes here but are not pursuing a degree at Michigan Engineering. If you want to take an engineering class here at Michigan as a special or non-degree student, then consider the following:

  • Admission is offered for only one term at a time and is re-evaluated for each subsequent term.
  • Not many engineering classes are offered over the spring and summer terms; they are mostly fall and winter.
  • You will need to submit a Special or Non-Degree application form.
  • You must meet transfer eligibility requirements in order to be able to take a class.
  • You must have permission from the instructor for each class.
  • You cannot pre-register; you must wait until the first day of classes to see if room is available.
  • If you want to take a class in our Liberal Arts College (LS&A), then you need to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (734) 764-7433 or ugadmiss@umich.edu.

Application Deadlines:
(to receive equal consideration)

March 1st for spring, summer or fall terms
