Funding Resources for Engineering Student Groups
To qualify for funding, student groups must be registered with MSA. Fundraising tips can be found on the Student Activities and Leadership (SAL) website. If you have questions about funding, please contact Jennifer Wegner (734-647-7155) to set up a meeting. This page has information on Engineering, University and Off-Campus Funding.
Forms:
Sources in the College of Engineering:
- College: Coordinated through the Student Leadership and Activities office, requests are accepted through the funding request form. College funding requests may include: conference participation/hosting; programs and events; multicultural programming; leadership education and skill development. Note: Department-based groups must receive matching department funding in order to receive College funding.
- Departments: The majority of funding to department-based groups with close ties to their fields of study is from departments.
- UMEC: Funding requests are handled using an Allocations Request Form; UMEC has its own funding policies and contracts.
Sources at the University:
- MSA : The Budget Priorities Committee and Community Service Commission handle all funding requests, depending on the nature of the request.
- Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI): The Student Academic Multicultural Initiatives (SAMI) program provides funding for student groups exploring issues of multiculturalism.
- Residence Halls Association (RHA): Housing-related events and activities are supported through RHA.
- University Activities Center (UAC): In partnership ventures, UAC works with groups interested in providing entertainment programming.
Funding Sources Outside of the College and University:
- The key thing to know is that for any funding intended to be a gift, it needs to be submitted to Advancement Services, 2000 Lurie Engineering Center. Bobbie Simson is the College's manager for these transactions. If you have any questions, contact Jennifer Wegner
- Student groups are encouraged to develop relationships with industry and individuals to enhance programming, activities, and overall efforts. There are specific procedures in place for student groups at the University (both sponsored and voluntary) to receive gifts. Gifts are defined as any contribution where the contributor wants a tax acknowledgement letter from the University of Michigan in recognition of the gift.
- For those funds raised by student groups that are NOT intended to be gifts, the funds can be deposited directly into SOAS accounts. Make sure you check with the contributor on the intention of any money that is given to your society or team.
