Travel Grants
The Engineering Graduate Symposium is open to all students at no cost. For students needing to travel a lengthy distance to Ann Arbor, MI there are a limited number of travel grants available. The travel grants are funded by a National Science Foundation Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate Grant (NSF AGEP) and by the College of Engineering. Travel grants include all airfare, hotels, local transportation, and meals while at the hotel or on campus. If you are interested in a travel grant, please indicate accordingly in the Symposium online registration. Students receiving a travel grant are required to attend all campus events from Thursday, November 12, through Saturday, November 14, 2009:
Criteria:

Applicants must intend to pursue a Ph.D. degree program (the University of Michigan allows students to apply for a Ph.D. program directly after their bachelor's degree)

Preference in awarding travel grants is given to students that will be applying for admission in the fall of 2010, as well as applicants who already hold a Master's degree. Juniors are also encouraged to apply.

Travel grants funded by the College of Engineering are open to all applicants. Travel grants funded by NSF-AGEP are subject to NSF-AGEP requirements.

U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents and international students living in the U.S. are all eligible for travel grants.

In general, students should have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0.

Complete symposium online registration.

Submit your unofficial transcripts and one letter of recommendation from a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) faculty member at your insititution VIA EMAIL to travelgrant@umich.edu. Grades are needed for all college classes completed through August, 2009. If you have attended multiple institutions, you must submit electronic copies for all colleges/universities.
Selection & Notification:
- Applications will be reviewed by faculty in the department/program of interest.
- Applications will be selected on a rolling basis. It is to your advantage to apply early (by late September).
- Most students will be notified by phone/email by mid October if they are selected to receive a travel grant.
Note: Travel grant recipients will receive a detailed itinerary via email within a week of the Symposium.
