Message from the Co-Chairs
Greetings to all the current and prospective graduate students and welcome to the 2008 Engineering Graduate Symposium!
The Engineering Graduate Symposium was started in 2000 by the Mechanical Engineering Department and has since expanded college-wide. The Symposium consists of four main parts: a poster session, concurrent oral presentations, an awards ceremony, and a prospective student recruitment fair, which was added last year. The incorporation of the fair gives prospective students a sense of the current research conducted by students in the College of Engineering. The Symposium is designed to aid students in the areas of communication, collaboration and innovation.
Here at the Symposium, our motto is "for the students, by the students." We believe that students are better able to address the needs of their peers. Along those lines, we would like to invite you to participate in or help organize this year's Symposium. Participants will have the opportunity to present a poster or give an oral presentation, or potentially do both. And of course, we are always looking for volunteers to help with organizing sessions, publicity, finding sponsorship and event setup. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership skills and interact with people from around the College and beyond.
If you have any questions regarding the Symposium, or would like to get involved, please email symp08info@umich.edu.
We look forward to seeing many of you on November 7th!
Sincerely,
Jessica TerBush, Yu Zhou
