Welcome to the CoE Peer Mentoring Program

The CoE Peer Mentoring Program connects new engineering students to the College by matching them with experienced engineering student mentors. The program and mentors provide support and resources that enhance the transition to the College. It builds community, promotes student involvement, and promotes successful development through their academic, social, and personal endeavors.

Incoming first-year students (mentees) are matched with a current engineering student (mentor) based on mutual interests and preferences, such as academic majors or campus activities. They first connect over the summer by email or phone. This is a great time to get questions answered about moving to campus. Mentors and mentees will meet each other early in September, and will continue to correspond and get together throughout the academic year. This one-on-one relationship provides each student with the opportunity to make a meaningful connection.

Several events are held during the year that will bring all mentors and mentees together. They'll include academic guidance, music, theater, or athletic events on campus, or something just for fun, like bowling or theme dinners. First-year students can connect with each other and with other mentors. This group will provide an even greater range of support and advice for that critical first year in the College.

The CoE Peer Mentoring Program is a fun, fast, and effective way for students to connect with each other, the College, and the campus community. For more information, please contact us at coementoring@umich.edu.
