I took AP Exams in high school. Will I get credit for them?

To see if you get credit for the exams you took see http://www.admissions.umich.edu/admitted/freshmen/adv_credit/ap_guidelines.php#engineering

I took A level exams. How do I know what credit I received for them?

Go to the Undergraduate Admissions Office in the Student Activities Building for an assessment of the A-level credit.

My AP Test credit is not on my transcript. How do I get it put on?

Please verify with the Office of Admissions Credit Evaluations Division (734-763-1074) that you have indeed sent your scores to the University. If you have not sent your scores to the University, please contact the College Board Testing Center.

I took classes at a community college during high school. Can I get credit for them?

Incoming freshmen who took a course or more at a college or university while dually enrolled in high school may potentially receive transfer credit. The guidelines for transferring credit in these situations include that the courses must:

a.) be taken at an accredited college or university

b.) be taken on a college/university campus

c.) be taken with other college/university students

d.) not be counted toward high school completion

Students seeking approval to transfer credit are required to submit a letter from their high school counselor verifying the above information. This will need to be submitted to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions at 1221 Beal Avenue; Robert H. Lurie Engineering Center, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2106.

I want to take a course at a college or university near my home over the summer. Where do I go to find out what classes transfer to U of M?

  • For LS&A courses go to: http://www.lsa.umich.edu/lsa/students/req_conversion
  • For Engineering courses go to: http://www.engin.umich.edu/transferdatabase

The class I want to take isn't listed on the transfer equivalency database, what do I do?

If you cannot locate your selected institution or courses on the Transfer Equivalency Databases, you will need to submit a Transfer Credit Approval form. You can find the form here, https://www.engin.umich.edu/students/academics/transfercreditapproval/index.jsp

In addition, you need to contact your chosen institution to obtain course descriptions and syllabi for the courses. Email these to the CoE Credit Evaluator, Cindy Kerschbaum, ckerschb@umich.edu, or bring them to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions (ORA), 1108 Lurie. Cindy will evaluate whether the course is equal to the same UM course. Please allow 1-3 weeks for courses to be evaluated, and call ORA with questions: 734-647-7101.

I wanted to take a class at UM Ann Arbor over the summer, what do I do?

The Registrar’s Office will post Spring/Summer Term course schedules in March ( http://umich.edu/~regoff/schedule/ ) and you can register for Spring/Summer courses at the same time you register for Fall Term courses in April. Six credits per term is considered full time; you can take a maximum of nine credits each term.
