Declaring an Engineering Major

A first-year student can declare an engineering major as early as their second term in the College of Engineering since they will have one term of grades recorded. Students must meet the following criteria to be able to declare:

1. Be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or above).

Exceptions: BioMed 3.2 GPA, ME 2.75 GPA and Engineering Physics 2.8 GPA

1. Completed or be enrolled in the first-year math, chemistry, physics, Engineering 100 and Engineering 101. 

Exceptions:  EECS requires a grade of C or better in all Engineering core courses. Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering require that students have completed their engineering core courses. Please see academic criteria for more information.

How to Declare

1. Contact the Engineering Department of your choice
2. Request an appointment with the program advisor to discuss declaring.
3. Review your academic report for courses and GPA with the advisor
4. Declaration request is approved or denied
5. If you are accepted into the degree program, the program advisor will submit your declaration form and you are declared!

It is highly recommended that students declare an Engineering degree program by the beginning of your second year. Once you declare your Engineering program, your academic advising will thereafter be provided by your department program advisor.
