Academic Criteria
A first-year student can declare an engineering major as early as their second term in the College of Engineering since they will have one term of grades recorded. Students must meet the following criteria to be able to declare:
- Be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or above)

Some Departments have additional requirements that must be met before a student can declare
Engineering Physics: 2.8 GPA
Biomedical Engineering: 3.2 GPA and students must have COMPLETED all first year engineering core courses.
Mechanical Engineering: Students must have COMPLETED all first year engineering core courses.
EECS: Students must have a grade of C or better in the first year engineering core courses
