Welcome Day:
Friday, August 29, 2008
Engineering Welcome Day is a program sponsored by the College of Engineering, the Engineering Advising Center, Recruitment and Admissions Office, and the University of Michigan Engineering Council. This program welcomes in-coming First Year and Transfer Engineering students to our annual Welcome Day Event.
Fun and informational activities are planned to help introduce the Engineering community to our newest members. By attending these activities, students will gain useful information about the College that will assist them with their transition to university life.
Engineering student societies and organizations gather on the North Campus diag to promote the signature programs and great membership benefits of their respective organizations. It is a wonderful opportunity for incoming students to experience the student support they have access to on campus. First-year students also have the chance to meet other new students and upperclassman.
Program advisors from the Engineering departments and representatives from many of the engineering offices will be present to showcase their undergraduate programs and the numerous opportunities available within the College of Engineering. Welcome Day activities also include computer information sessions and workshops for time management and academic success.
Engineering Service Day
Engineering Service Day (ESD) provides U-M CoE faculty, staff, and students an opportunity to work together to strengthen both the University and the surrounding community. ESD is a day of community service where members of the CoE family can participate in community work for four hours through a local agency. Engineers, especially in a world so reliant on technology, have the power to make a serious change in the way we take care of people and our environment. ESD was started in hopes that the Engineering community at U-M will take a more active role in changing and improving the conditions of the world around us.
Engineering Week
Every year, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) organizes Engineering Week to increase public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession. During the week, there are planned activities for engineers to help create an interest in math, science, and engineering. This event is not only celebrated by the University of Michigan, but also by over 100 students societies and major corporations. Engineering Week is one of the many activities planned by student organizations to promote unity among the CoE faculty, staff, and students.
