About Us

The Michigan Solar Car Team is a non-profit, student run organization whose purpose is to design, finance, build and race a solar powered vehicle in several competitions across the US and the World. We are a society dedicated to the development of our members as teammates, scholars, competitors, teachers, and leaders. With a mission for education, we work with respect and responsibility as a team that is inwardly collaborative and outwardly competitive. With a regard for a diverse people, values, and talents, we strive to create a consistent, comprehensive, and cohesive organization. Members of our team come from across all academic disciplines and experience levels. With a core group of approximately 40 students and a supporting group of another 100 team members, the Michigan Solar Car Team works year round to develop a new vehicle on a two year project cycle. With over a decade of tradition, the Michigan Solar Car Team has been one of the most exciting and involved student projects to take place at the University of Michigan.

Team
With the ultimate goal of educating the public about the potential of alternative energy resources and advanced technologies, our team has embraced the friendly competition of the races and we always look forward to challenging ourselves to develop the best team and vehicle in the world. Members of our team come from a variety of academic disciplines including engineering, business administration, and liberal arts, and while working on the project, we are exposed to nearly every aspect of a real world company. In many ways, we consider the project to be a "student corporation" as opposed to a student group. Although members join for different reasons, in the end, their participation is a personally rewarding experience that reflects the student's genuine desire to learn as much as possible while making the project as successful as possible.
