ECOFEST Parade; September 25-28 1997; New York, NY
ECOFEST
The University of Michigan Solar Car Team participated in ECOFEST '97 on the West Side of New York City. Former Race Crew members of the Wolverine team took our Sunrayce 1997 entry, Wolverine, to two events in the New York City area.

The first event was a press conference with Mayor Rudolph Guliani at City Hall. Mayor Guliani talked to team members from the Michigan, University of Pennsylvania, and MIT Solar Car Teams outside City Hall with the actual solar cars. From there, the team went to a press conference inside City Hall where ECOFEST was officially "kicked off" with the Mayor's staff and award presentations.

The second event the team participated in was the ECOFEST parade, taking place on the West Side of Manhattan, and ending in Riverside Park. Along with other alternative-energy vehicles and marching bands, Wolverine drove the streets of the Big Apple. The car was then on display in Riverside Park for the remainder of the afternoon.

ECOFEST turned out to be a unique event for the Solar Car Team. We were able to raise awareness of the sport as well as the University of Michigan through our participation. It was a great time for everyone involved.
