Day 4: Wednesday, October 20 | ||||
After 4 days of racing, we are 60 km south of the press stop at Cadney. We
are currently in 8th place, only a few kilometers behind 7th place MIT.
The 9th place Tamagawa team is also only a few kilometers behind us. The
race is just as competitive among the leaders. The top 3 teams are all
within 10 minutes of each other and have been jockeying positions all day.
At the end of the day, Aurora led the race, followed by Queens University
and the Sunshark team from the University of Queensland. Because of the
close competition, World Solar Challenge is getting media coverage all
over the world from CNN, the BBC, and other media organizations.
MaizeBlaze is still running great. We drove through some strong, dusty winds today. At one point the wind caught the fin on the canopy and pulled the canopy open. We had to stop to close the canopy, but we were going again in about 4 minutes. We had good sun to charge last night and this morning and are looking forward to a great run on Day 5. We have 2 more press stops left before we roll across the finish line in Adelaide hopefully sometime Friday afternoon (early Friday morning U.S. time). Thanks for all your good wishes and keep cheering for us! |
