Day 1: Sunday, October 17

RealAudio Update

G’day mates, this is Jed Christiansen and the MaizeBlaze team calling from the outback of Australia. We are very happy with the way the car is running at the end of day one. We started the day in 5th place on the starting grid and we are currently standing in 6th place. We have traveled approximately 507 km and are standing at the corner of Carpenteria Highway where it crosses the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territories; a few kilometers south of Daily Waters.

We are currently 44 km short of Dunmarra where we should arrive early tomorrow morning for our next press stop. We were a little hampered today by the hilly terrain coming out of Darwin and could not go as fast as we wanted to.

The teams in front of us are Aurora 101 from the Aurora Vehicle’s Association, the Kanazawa Solar Challenge Team from Japan, Queens University, Northern Territories University and OSU-S, from Japan. This means is that there is two Japanese, two Australian and one Canada team in front of us making us the number one US team in the race.

Here is information that we have found out about our competitors.

There are currently four teams at the Dunmarra press stop.
-Aurora Vehicles Association with Aurora 101 pulled in at 4:32,
   -Kanazawa pulled in at 4:53,
-Northern Territories University pulled in at 4:58,
-Queens University pulled in almost exactly at 5:00pm.

OSU-S passed us at the very end of the day and are only 10 kilometers ahead of us.

We will be spending the night at the "Highway Inn Road House" which is very nice for our first night on the race.

Things are going great and we are very happy to be the first US team in the race.
