Engineering is responsible for the design, manufacture, and most of the testing of the vehicle. Additionally, the race crew that operates the solar car on the races is composed primarily of Engineering division members.
The division is segmented based on system, with teams working specifically on aerodynamics/body design, mechanical, electrical, micro-electrical, and procurement. Every system on the vehicle, with the exception of an off-the-shelf braking system, is custom-designed and manufactured for each race.
The Engineering team ensures not only that each individual system performs to the highest standards, but also that the systems work together properly to create a fully-functional vehicle.
