PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SURVEY - GIVE US YOUR IDEAS AND FEEDBACK
Hey SWE! Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey. You will receive 1/2 an Industry point for doing so! We want to know what YOU want from our committee this year - more networking with grad students, professors, alumni, or companies? Opportunities to learn how to make yourself a better candidate for employers? Better advertising for our events? Food at our presentations? Let us know how we can plan our year so that you get the most out of it!
If the link above doesn't work, try this: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dExPV1ZlUDd4TTZlMzlTcWowYzM5RUE6MA

SWE SQUADS
Join a SWE Squad!! You won't regret it! By joining a SWE Squad, you will be grouped with both new and returning SWE members. Then we'll duke it out in a SWE Squad competition to see which squad can get the most attendance at certain SWE events/activities. It is yet another great way to meet more SWE members (and get to know them a little better) and get more involved. If you're interested in SWE Squads, please email Anjali at telpa@umich.edu with your major and the number of semesters you have been invovled in SWE. More information to come!
ANGELL ELEMENTARY VISITS
We will be visiting Angell Elementary to work with a second grade class on an engineering related activity and hopefully increase young girls interested in engineering. Please email Erin Ebsch (ebsch@umich.edu) if you are interested in volunteering.
Friday, December 11
12:30-1:30
Thank you,
Erin Ebsch

VOLUNTEER AND ATTEND A CIS
Find your dream job! Corporate Information Sessions (CIS) are here to help!
CIS = Corporate Information Session = meet recruiters, eat free food, drop resumes, get the inside scoop on what your future employers REALLY do.
You can sign up to volunteer at www.engin.umich.edu/soc/swe/cis Please email me at least 24 hours in advance if you can no longer attend a session you signed up for. If you do not inform me in a timely manner, you will then need to volunteer at two sessions to receive one CIS point. If you sign up to volunteer at a session online and do not receive a confirmation email from me, please either sign up again online or email me at amandaxi@umich.edu Thanks!
QUESTIONS? email Amanda, CIS Student Coordinator, amandaxi@umich.edu
Help spread the word about SWE's Corporate Information Sessions by joining the Facebook group! Just search "Corporate Information Sessions at the University of Michigan" and invite all of your friends!
Get the most up-to-date schedule: CIS Schedule and sign up to volunteer: CIS Volunteer Sign-Up
***ADDITIONAL CIS POINT OPPORTUNITIES***
We have two new ways to earn your CIS points!
Here's How:
1. Get permission from your professor to talk about Corporate Information Sessions are five minutes prior to the start of class. Email cis.studvol@umich.edu with the class title and meeting times. We'll get back to you with details as well as to set up a date.
2. Have you had an internship/co-op? If you still have a contact with that company, you can earn a point by asking the company to consider having a corporate information session. We even have the template made! Just complete the attached template and email it to your corporate contact while also CC-ing cis.studvol@umich.edu!
3. ***CIS Focus Group***
Thursday, December 3 / 7PM (right after the Seminar -- if you have your committee meeting then, please include that in your RSVP)
Location: 1006 DOW
We constantly want to improve our Corporate Information Sessions and the best way to do that is to get feedback from YOU! Please RSVP to Amanda (amandaxi@umich.edu) and include your name, uniquename, whether or not you've attended a CIS in the past and whether you have volunteered to setup before. Since it's going to be in a round-table discussion format, we must limit the group to 15 people, so make sure to sign-up ASAP! You will receive 1 CIS point for attending.

WRITE FOR THE SPECIALIST
Looking for an easy way to get more membership points without even leaving the comfort of your own home? Submit an article to the Specialist! They can be long, short, funny, serious, or completely random. In the past we've had members submit recipes, event reviews, and even comics. Some other ideas include movie reviews, poetry, and stories about your internship experience. The Specialist is handed out at every seminar so there are plenty of opportunities for you to earn points. If you plan on submitting something, please let me know by the Monday before that week's seminar so I can plan accordingly. Points will range from .5 to 2, depending on the size of the article (with a maximum cap of 3 points total).
If you have any questions you can email me at ajordet@umich.edu.
ROCK 'N BOWL
Want a great way of celebrating the end of the semester? Come have fun with your fellow SWE members
along with TBP and HKN at Rock 'n Bowl! It will be on Friday, December 4th at Colonial Lanes of Ann
Arbor, Time: TBA. Ride plans will be announced at a later date. This event is always a ton of fun, so please try to attend!
If you have any questions, please email Rachel Matson (matsonra@umich.edu).
GET SWE POINTS JUST BY ANSWERING A QUESTION!
Every issue of the Specialist is going to feature a fun question that our SWE members have answered. You will get 1/2 of a PR point for each question you answer. However, only the first 3 people to email me a response will receive points. Priority will also be given to those members who haven't answered a question before.
Here's this issue's question:
What has been your favorite SWE activity so far this semester and why?
Email your response along with a picture of yourself to ajordet@umich.edu by Tuesday, November 3rd and look for your answer and picture in the next issue of the Specialist!
