Comprised of 7 regions hosting 43 professional chapters, and 179 student chapters across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, SHPE is the largest Hispanic Engineering and Science organization. Learn about the benefits of being part of this large and prestigious organization, as well as testimonials from members.
We offer workshops, information sessions, study tables, community service, social events, and fundraising events that are available to all students. Sponsorship to conferences will be based on a point system where points
can be earned simply by attending most SHPE events and becoming part of the committees available. We have three so far this year: The End of the Year Banquet Committee, Regional Leadership Conference Committee, and the Fundraising Committee.
For more information on how to get involved contact SHPE Recruitment Co-Chair Orlando Alvarez oalvarez@umich.edu .
Benefits of being a SHPE member nation-wide:
- Discounted registration fees to conferences
- Life-long networking opportunities
- Free SHPE Magazine publications
- Access to internships and scholarships
- Career development, leadership training, and professional development
Graduate students are an important part of the SHPE Membership. They are considered regular student members however, there is a committee specifically created to address graduate student concerns, programs, and initiatives within SHPE; i.e. Graduate Student Development Committee (GSDC). For more information on the GSDC or graduate student programs within SHPE, please visit the Graduate Student section under Members on the national SHPE website at www.shpe.org.
Here at the University of Michigan we have been actively trying to increase our graduate membership. Although most of our current events are geared towards the undergraduate body, we would like to incorporate events that graduate students would like to see, or how they can get more involved. We feel that graduate students are an important resource to our membership body.
