Turn the Empty Reflection Pool Into an Ice Rink!
Problem description: The Reflecting Pool on North Campus near Lurie Engineering Center and the IOE building is easily one of the most beautiful landmarks on campus, a great place to visit. The problem, however, is that it is drained and closed down 6 out of the 8 months that we are here during the school year!! What was built as a great space to hang out, do some reading, meet up with friends, or simply to "reflect" turns into an ugly dead zone. Honestly, who wants to sit down and stare at an empty shallow pool?
Proposed solution: Turn it into an ice rink during the Winter! An ice rink would attract tons of students to the area, and make it much less of an eye sore (for at least a few months). Students could use it for free-skating, pickup hockey, or even for IM broomball. Maintenance would be minimal, it could even be left to those who want to skate to shovel off the snow. It is a decision that the University must consider!
