ASM Executive Board 2012
Message from the Chapter Faculty Advisor
This honorary society for students in materials science and engineering recognizes diligence and ethical qualities in our students. In addition to enjoying one another's company, students in the society give back to the Department and College with their tutoring, especially to students in MSE 220 and 250. I urge all MSE students to aspire to membership in Alpha Sigma Mu. Students chosen for nomination to the society are those whose GPAs are in an upper fraction of those of our student body.
~ Professor Richard Robertson
The University of Michigan has continued to be active in Alpha Sigma Mu, with representatives serving on the Board of Trustees. Michigan has been home to the national Alpha Sigma Mu web site for the past several years, although the University of Dayton has taken over this responsibility.
At Michigan the Alpha Sigma Mu chapter has had a long tradition of service to fellow students by providing free tutoring, particularly for students taking MSE 250 and now 220, two introductory courses to inspire undergraduates in the field of materials science. Over the years Alpha Sigma Mu has also sponsored other events on occasion, including egg drop contests, career fairs, and luncheons. Alpha Sigma Mu members have also helped in service to other department organizations such as the Michigan Materials Society.
