Better Living Using Engineering

From November 28th to December 11th, the Better Living Using Engineering Lab will stage an en-masse brainstorming session in the form of a week-long interactive gallery exhibit.  The exhibit will actively invite all members of the University of Michigan Community –Business, SNRE, and Medical students, Engineers, Musicians, Architects, and Artists – to collaborate in offering solutions to design problems that are tailored to spur interest in the sustainability of the planet and people.

We intend to spark innovation through mass-collaboration by transforming the gallery into a participatory and collaborative design space, bringing the creative powers of all Campus together to tackle three ambitious design problems.  Visitors are encouraged to propose solutions to the presented problems and communicate these ideas through writing, sketches, and physical prototypes. These ideas will be put on display in the gallery, creating a constantly evolving exhibit.

There will be four design competition events during the exhibit where teams will be given 40 minutes to solve specific tasks related to the problems presented below. Everyone is welcome to participate in these events. The finalists of these competitions will be invited to present their solutions on the closing day of the exhibit. At this time, an award will be presented to the team with the most innovative and effective solution as determined by a panel of judges.

Further details of the Design Problems in the exhibit can be found here.
