Better Living Using Engineering

From Oct 26-Nov 1, 2005, BLUElab sponsored an interactive exhibit in the Duderstadt Gallery of the University of Michigan North Campus. The goal of the "Pathways to Sustainability" installation was to increase awareness about privilege, issues of appropriate technology, sustainable development, consumption, and the role that engineering decisions play in these issues.

Outside the gallery, a passersby saw a large screen flashing statistics from "The Village of 100 People." Inside, the gallery was divided into two parts. On one side, a audio/visual installation presented visitors with information about current unsustainable consumption patterns. On the other side, a similar show presented visitors with a better option. Between the two, a computer allowed visitors the opportunity to calculate their environmental footprint. Now you can relive part of the experience too!
