SWE-D PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
SWE Detroit would like to extend you a special invitation to the 2008 Professional Development Conference entitled Knowledge for Growth. Our award winning program will be held at the General Motors Warren Technology Center on Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 7:30am to 3:30pm. Take the Ride of Your Life with our keynote speaker, Joyce Weiss. She is a certified speaking professional (CSP) and started Joyce Weiss Training and Development LLC, a best practices certified company, in 1987. The cost for the PD Conference will be ˝ price for students ($20 for SWE/IEEE/NSBE/SHPE members & $30 for non-members). UM-SWE will reimburse you for half of your registration fee if you attend and provide proof of payment.

CUMMINS INC. DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
Cummins Inc. supports a scholarship program for undergraduate students every year that is called the Diversity Scholarship program. The attachment below explains the scholarship program, and its criteria, in detail. The weblink for the application can be found at the following link:

In the past University of Michigan students have benefited from the Cummins Inc. scholarship program and joined the company for summer internships at its various US locations.

INTERNATIONAL EMAIL-OUTS!
Interested in getting acquainted with another country, its culture and lifestyle? Interested in having a friend(s) from somewhere around the world? Sign up to be a pen-pal for an international student who has been admitted to the College of Engineering and earn some Outreach Points. All you have to do is have email correspondance with some students from a specific region and talk to them about CoE, engineering, Ann Arbor and student life at UofM and help them decide UofM as their Undergraduate College.
Pick a region which interests you and help build a network for the incoming freshmen: Regions to choose from are: South East Asia (Taiwan, Kuala Lumpur, Thailand etc), India, Pakistan, China & Hong Kong, Japan, Middle East (Kuwait, Dubai, Iran etc), Europe, Africa, South America (Costa Rica, Puerto Rico), UK.
Each volunteer will be in charge of around 5 students.

SUMMER ENGINEERING EXPLORATION CAMP FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Sunday, July 13, 2008 - Saturday, July 19, 2008
This summer SWE is offering the annual Summer Engineering Exploration (SEE) Camp, a weeklong investigation of the various
fields and career possibilities in engineering at the University of Michigan.
SEE is aimed at high school students considering the field of engineering. It allows the participants to explore the
many engineering disciplines that the University of Michigan College of Engineering offers. The campers are also
introduced to some of the major engineering clubs and organizations on campus. The camp also includes visits to
outside locations to experience the professional world of engineering. Participants will have the chance to interact with
admissions and financial aid counselors, engineering students, faculty, and professional women engineers. In addition,
the camp includes a variety of activities aimed at building teamwork skills and having fun in Ann Arbor. Last year this included a
ropes course, team design project, canoeing, pool, the Ann Arbor Art Fair, and more!

Applications are due Tuesday, March 27, 2008.

I hope everyone is doing well on their knitting projects! The due date for this project has been postponed to sometime after break, details TBA. At this meeting we will begin turn in the squares and begin to assemble the blanket! HOORAY!

ELEVATED MEMBER EVENT
This semester's elevated member event will take place on Wednesday, April 16th at 2pm at Pizza House. You must have received an invitation to attend
the event. If you have not received one, but believe that you are an elevated member, please email Michelle at midelane@umich.edu. Remember, to be an elevated member you must have volunteered at least 12 hours,
with at least one hour in each committee (plus career fair in the fall). If you did not meet the requirements this time, there's always next semester! Elevated or not, we appreciate all of our member's involvement and dedication to SWE!
SPRINGFEST
We are looking for volunteers to help at the SWE table for Springfest (on North Campus) on Tuesday, April 15th from 10am - 4pm. This is the last day of classes and there will be lots of fun events going on all day, so come check them out and volunteer with SWE to get your PR point!
