What is HFES?

The mission of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society is to “promote the discovery and exchange of knowledge concerning the characteristics of human beings that are applicable to the design of systems and devices of all kinds.” The society hopes to achieve its mission by advocating systematic application of human factors knowledge in the design of interactive systems of people, machines, and environments to ensure their effectiveness, safety, and ease of performance.

Human Factors at Michigan

The University of Michigan HFES chapter promotes this human centered approach to the design of systems by exposing its members to facilities researching and applying human factors concepts, and talks by researchers who are working in this field. U of M HFES will also sponsor events that encourage the interaction among students, faculty, and practitioners interested in this field. Human Factors and Ergonomics are interdisciplinary fields, therefore people from different fields who are interested in humans factors are encouraged to join this chapter.
