Organizational History
The University of Michigan Graduate Student Chapter of ASEE is among the most active student chapters in the nation. Throughout its ten-year history, the Michigan chapter has been consistently dedicated to improving engineering education at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. This group has planned events to heighten the focus on pedagogy for both faculty and graduate student instructors, to assist students in obtaining and succeeding at new faculty positions, and to help undergraduate students to make educated decisions about graduate school and careers in academia.
Mission Statement
The University of Michigan Student Chapter of ASEE focuses its efforst towards two main group--graduate and undergraduate engineering students. Our goals for graduate engineering student are:
- To inform students about various aspects of a career in academia,
- To enhance the teaching and presentation skills of prospective educators,
- To encourage students to consider careers in academia,
- To assist students in their search for academic positions and
- To develop the skills needed to establish and lead a research program.
- To dispel common misconceptions about graduate school,
- To inform students about the potential benefits of attending graduate school,
- To help students prepare for graduate school entrance requirements and
- To educate students on the availability of financial aid.
