UM Office of Space Analysis Room Types and Codes

Room numbers, space allocations, room use and identification are assigned by the UM Office of Space Analysis group (Rm 1900 Administrative Services Bldg 1432, 3-1196). They must be contacted to change room designations. The Room Type Codes being tracked by the CoE Inventory are 210, 215, 220, 225, 250, 255, 720, 725, 730, 735, 760, 764, 765.  On each accompanying facility inventory, the columns for Room Type and Description refer to these codes.

For changes contact:
Molly Karner, CoE Facilities Ph: 647-7070/Fax: 647-7001
E-mail: mkarner@umich.edu

Note: State OSHA guidelines specify what is required of each lab. Unless noted, only an SOP is required.

CoE Laboratory Descriptions

The accompanying inventories for each facility include a column for laboratory description - the following key explains the CoE laboratory type names and what they mean in practice.

8. Non-Ionizing Radiation An area which uses radiowaves, microwaves, visible, infrared and ultraviolet light (welding is excluded, if lab is already designated as a machine shop). OSHA suggests using ACGIH recommendation.
9. Photographic An area containing photoreactive chemicals and a darkroom.
10. Mechanical and/or Structural An area where mechanical instrumentation for non-chemical types of research are used. Examples include: stress testing, concrete forming, furnace and metallurgy equipment. (Room types 250 and 255).
