Research area keywords: Laser-plasma interaction at relativistic intensities, ion acceleration with intense lasers.

Dr. Louise Willingale has a PhD (2007) from Imperial College London, UK, where she studied ion acceleration from high-intensity laser-plasma interactions. In 2008 she joined the CUOS group as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS) department. Her current research interests are ion acceleration from ultra-high intensity laser interactions, particularly from underdense and near critical density plasmas. Experimental work is performed using the CUOS laser T-cubed at the University of Michigan as well as the Omega EP facility at the University of Rochester. To determine the underlying high-intensity laser plasma interaction mechanisms, Louise also performs numerical modeling to support her experimental results.
