Plant Modeling in an Industrial Setting
Ford Motor Company
This talk will cover some of the interesting
issues seen when developing plant models in an industrial setting. The presentation will include several
examples of interesting automotive plant models drawn from applications
involving hybrid electric vehicles, liquid fuel effects modeling, hydraulic
actuators, etc. An important
aspect of this work is the use of the Modelica modeling language, an enabling
technology for development of predictive plant models. Important aspects of modeling in an
industrial setting include model validation, model reduction, management of the
model development process, and promoting reuse of models across different applications. Finally,
some observations will be presented about how the goals and
perspectives of model developers differ depending on whether they are
developing models of control systems or plant models.
