Cantilever based Devices

Abstract: Micro-cantilever based devices have
revolutionized microscopy in the past decade. They heralded the area of
nanotechnology by demonstrations of rational control and manipulation of matter
at the atomic scale. In spite of the remarkable feats of these devices
significant challenges remain
to translate their potential into reality. In this
talk we present recent applications of a system theoretic viewpoint to this
technology. It will be shown that such a perspective provides unique insights
into the dynamics, that can delineate essential limitations and indicate newer
methods of imaging. Use of advanced control methods for nanopositioning will also be presented.
