Cooperative Education and Internships
The Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) offers assistance to organizations seeking students to participate in internship and cooperative education opportunities. Michigan Engineering students are available to work for one or two semesters at a time, at any time of the year.
The benefits to your organization
Internships and cooperative education opportunities are critical to providing students with a well-rounded education. Providing these opportunities increases your organization's presence on campus and assists you with identifying prospects for permanent employment.
- Cooperative Education
In a cooperative education arrangement, students commit two semesters to working for an employer outside the University. These semesters can be consecutive (e.g., a Spring/Summer assignment followed by a Fall assignment) or can be alternated with school semesters (e.g., a Spring/Summer assignment and a Winter assignment, with the Fall semester spent at school). Students are eligible for a cooperative education assignment after their sophomore year. Salary arrangements are negotiated between the student and the employer using ECRC guidelines. - Internships
Internships, typically a Spring/Summer experience, provide students with a short-term, career-related learning experience that will make them better qualified when they enter the job market. Michigan Engineering students are eager to transfer what they learn in the classroom to practical application in the workplace.
