Special Opportunities: Computer Science and Engineering Building

In the past several decades, society has become increasingly dependent on a computer-based information technology (IT) infrastructure to provide services for health care, finance, telecommunications, power systems, commerce, entertainment, and transportation.  As network access continues to improve, other areas such as "smart" buildings and vehicles, interactive highways, and new communication modes will emerge.  The pervasiveness of IT also means a substantial presence of computers, automated commerce, unprecedented access to entertainment systems, and the need for reliable, secure and attack-resistant systems.  The evolution of IT is creating a critical need in society for computer science and engineering expertise.

CSE ExteriorMichigan Engineering's continued prominence as a leading educational and research institution requires a world renowned computer science and engineering department.  Burgeoning student interest in educational programs, industry and societal demand for graduates, twenty-four new faculty positions, and growing interdisciplinary research volumes require expanded and updated educational and laboratory space.

CSE InteriorComputer Science and Engineering is a significant priority for Michigan Engineering.  In January 2006, the College opened the doors to a new Computer Science and Engineering building that addresses the issues outlined above.  The 100,000 sq ft facility provides space for 56 tenure-track faculty and 11 new laboratories; it provides a single home for our Computer Science and Engineering department that is currently spread across three buildings.  The building's flexible, open, dynamic learning environment allows Michigan Engineering to accommodate new educational and instructional paradigms.   Aligning with overall University objectives and leveraging a solid programmatic foundation in the College, this facility plays a leading role in maintaining and developing Michigan's position as a leader in engineering research and education.  Find out how your company can get involved today!
