Edward Borbely was named Director of the Center for Professional Development in September 1994. In this capacity, he has lead responsibility for graduate professional degree programs, continuing education programs, off-campus education, and technology enhanced learning in the College of Engineering. The unit's primary resources are located in the Chrysler Center and include video and web production studios, broadcast quality video editing facilities, satellite transmission systems, and distance learning classrooms, employing a staff of 23 people.
Previously, Borbely was Director of Off-Campus Education in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, at Columbia University in New York, NY and had lead responsibility for off-campus graduate education and other non-traditional programs in engineering, as well as the development of university-wide resources for instructional technology and methodology.
Borbely has been a Faculty Fellow at the New Jersey Department of Higher Education, and has served as a consultant on telecommunications, instructional technology and methodology, and distance learning for the State of New Jersey, Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Stockton State College, William Paterson College, Georgian Court College, and others.
Borbely graduated with a BA in Communication, Information, and Library Science from Rutgers University and has a Master's from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program. He is a member of several professional organizations, is on the Executive Board of the Continuing Professional Development Division of the American Society of Engineering Education, and serves on the Governing Council of the International Association of Continuing Engineering Education. He has several publications to his credit on the subject of continuing education and technology enhanced learning.
