The Science Olympiad is a national, non-profit, tax exempt organizationThe Olympiad has members in all 50 states, totaling more than 13,500 actively participating K-12 schools. Science competition between local elementary schools.
Various UM faculty have coached different events, e.g., Jeff Fessler has coached "circuit wizardry."
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE is the driving force that establishes engineering as a highly desirable career aspiration for women. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.

SCOUT OUT ENGINEERING DAYS
Scout Out Engineering Days give local girl scouts the opportunity to visit campus and see what engineering is all about. Email Stephanie Clarke with any questions smclarke@umich.edu or send her any applications. to sign up.

NEUTRAL ZONE PAC DINNERS
Meet at 5:10pm at the Cube or 5:30 at Neutral Zone Neutral Zone is a teen center in AA and hosts a number of programs for them. SWE pays them frequent visits to help cook dinners for the teens. Come support the Neutral Zone's efforts by helping to cook dinner. The visits typically last anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours and are a lot of fun. You get to bond with other SWE members as well as the teens there and have a great time! Contact Laura or Catherine if interested.
SUMMER ENGINEERING EXPLORATION

SWE offers an annual Summer Engineering Exploration (SEE) Camp, a weeklong investigation of the various fields and career possibilities in engineering at the University of Michigan.
SEE is aimed at high school girls considering the field of engineering. It allows the participants to explore the many engineering disciplines that the University of Michigan College of Engineering offers. The girls are also introduced to some of the major engineering clubs and organizations on campus. The camp also includes visits to outside locations to experience the professional world of engineering. Participants have the chance to interact with admissions and financial aid counselors, engineering students, faculty, and professional women engineers. In addition, the camp includes a variety of activities aimed at building teamwork skills and having fun in Ann Arbor including a ropes course, team design project, canoeing, pool, the Ann Arbor Art Fair, and more. - A Walk for Education - an NSBE event to promote higher education in Detroit's African American community and to share information about educational opportunities in math, science, engineering and technology.
- National Black AIDS Awareness Day - a collaboration between NSBE and other student organizations to raise public consciousness about AIDS.
- Tutoring, coaching, campus events and visits, classroom demonsrations for local school districts / middle school and high school students.
Mission
The mission of the Mathematics Literacy Project is to engage parents, students, schools, and the university in enhancing mathematics literacy among all students in Washtenaw County, through curriculum initiatives, professional development, parent involvement, and student engagement.
Goals
The Project will foster a spirit of collaboration among stakeholders, mobilize and empower the school community, and advance community understanding that mathematics literacy is the key to a quality education.
Activities
The Project will work on new mathematics curriculum and student learning resources, in-service professional development programs, information and opportunities for greater parent involvement in their children’s math education, and mentoring and tutoring.
