Amy Cohn, associate professor, IOE, has been named an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor.

Omolola Eniola-Adefeso, assistant professor, ChE, has been named 2011 Lloyd N. Ferguson Young Scientist by the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.

Jeremy Busby, adjunct assistant professor, NERS, and Jerry Lynch, associate professor, CEE, EECS, have each received an NSF Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, one of the nation’s top honors for young scientists.

Anthony Grbic, assistant professor, EECS, and Anna Michalak, associate professor, CEE, AOSS, have been selected for Henry Russel Awards, one of the highest honors the University awards faculty in the early stages of their careers.

Wayne Jones, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, has received ASM International’s Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award.

Nick Kotov, professor, ChE, BME, MSE, was recognized by Science Watch as one of the “Top 100 Chemists, 2000-2010.” He also ranked in the top 25 in Materials Science.

Robert D. Scott (BSE ECE ’75), director, Ross School of Business Information Systems Executive Forum, has been named the managing director of the new Center for Engineering Diversity and Outreach.

Dimitrios Zekkos, asassistant professor, CEE, has received the ASCE 2010 Thomas A. Middlebrooks Award for a paper published in the June 2009 Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.

Yoram Koren, Paul G. Goebel Professor of Mechanical Engineering, director, NSF ERC for Reconfigurable Mfg Systems, and Fawwaz Ulaby, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, Chen-To Tai Collegiate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, were named Distinguished University Professors.

Khalil Najafi (BSE EE ’80, MSE ’81, PhD ’86), Schlumberger Professor of Engineering and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, EECS (chair), BME, and Kensall Wise, J. Reid and Polly Anderson Professor of Manufacturing Technology and William Gould Dow Distinguished University Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, have been selected as Distinguished University Innovators for 2011.

Larry Seiford, professor, IOE, has joined the Joel D. Tauber Institute for Global Operations as the Goff Smith College of Engineering Co-Director.

Three Named to National Academy of Engineering

John Allison, professor, MSE, Lawrence Burns, professor, IOE, and Mark Kushner, George I. Haddad Collegiate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, professor, NERS, have been named members of the National Academy of Engineering.

New Fellows

Farnam Jahanian, chair, CSE, Edward S. Davidson Collegiate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Adam Matzger, professor, MacroE, and Kon-Well Wang, William E. Diefenderfer Chaired Professor in Mechanical Engineering, Stephen P. Timoshenko Collegiate Professor, have been named fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Jahanian was also selected by the NSF to head its Directorate for Computer & Information Science & Engineering.

Margaret Kivelson, AOSS, has been voted an honorary fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.

Sherif El-Tawil, professor, CEE, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Anthony M. Waas, Felix Pawlowski Collegiate Professor of Aerospace Engineering, professor, ME, was named a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
