Astronaut Scholarship Foundation Selects Aero Student
Aerospace Engineering student Matthew McKeown received $10,000 from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. The award was one of 19 that the Foundation makes available each year to college students who exhibit exceptional performance, initiative and creativity in the science or engineering field of their major.
Entrepreneurial Opportunities Day a Hit
Entrepreneurial Opportunities Day proved to be a stimulating venue for 100 innovation-based companies and non-profit organizations in Southeast Michigan, and 1,200 Michigan Engineering students with a flair for invention and creativity.
Students Post YouTube Video of Project
Four teams of engineering students under the direction of Shorya Awtar, an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, put in a lot of hard hours designing and building full-size balancing scooters that resemble the Segway Human Transporter. But that wasn't enough work for several students who put together a video of their project and posted it on YouTube:

CoE Students Among Teams Sweeping National Competition
CoE students were among the four University of Michigan teams that captured the $15,000 first prize, $5,000 third prize and $2,000 fourth prize, and shared the $10,000 second prize, in the national CleanTech Venture Challenge, which was hosted by the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Ruba Borno and Tzeno Galchev, doctoral students in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, were members of Potentia, the team that took first prize. Mechanical Engineering doctoral student Jim Beyer was a member of team EnDep Systems, which collared fourth place. Read the details at http://www.engin.umich.edu/news/cleantech.
AOSS Awards Two New Undergraduate Scholarships
The Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences recently announced the first recipients of two new undergraduate scholarships: Rachael Kroodsma and Ilissa Ocko. Kroodsma received the Paul B. and Ruth A. Hays Scholarship, named for Emeritus Professor Paul Hays and his wife; Ocko received the Weather Underground Undergraduate Scholarship, made possible by Weather Underground co-founder Jeff Masters (BS AOS '82, MS '83, PhD '97).
ECRC Reestablishes Alumni Network for Michigan Engineers
The Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) has reestablished the Alumni Network for Michigan Engineers. Maintained through HireME, an on-line recruiting system that features job postings and interview information, the Network matches alumni with students looking for career information.
