Short items about Colege of Engineering faculty -- their promotions, achievements and honors. More

Four Elected to National Academy of Engineering

Steven Goldstein, Yoram Koren, Tresa Pollock and Ralph Yang were elected to the National Academy of Engineering, one of the highest honors an engineer can receive in this country.

Martin and Shyy Are New Department Chairs

Bill Martin, professor, Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences (NERS), and Wei Shyy, formerly professor and chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida, have been appointed department chairs of NERS and Aerospace Engineering, respectively.

Four Appointed to Endowed Professorships

Noboru Kikuchi, David Neuhoff, Tresa Pollock and Scott Mahlke have been appointed to endowed professorships, an honor that dates back to the Lucasian Chair at Cambridge University, awarded to Sir Isaac Newton in 1669. But the importance of these scholarly honors has taken on new significance for funding and maintaining an environment where the finest scholars may flourish.

Chaffin and Bhattacharya Appointed Distinguished University Professors

Don Chaffin, G. Lawton and Louise G. Johnson Professor, IOE, BME, and Pallab Bhattacharya, James R. Mellor Professor of Engineering, have been appointed Distinguished University Professors, an honor the University’s Board of Regents created in 1947 to recognize members of the faculty for exceptional achievement and reputation in their fields of scholarly interest and for their superior teaching skills.
