  • New CEE Chair
    Nancy Love, former Virginia Tech civil and environmental engineering professor, has joined the College as chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. At Virginia Tech, she earned her department's Alumni Teaching Excellence Award and the college's Excellence in Research Award. Her research is in the area of environmental biotechnology. She has received the National Science Foundation's (NSF) CAREER Award, one of the NSF's highest honors for early-career faculty. Professor Love replaces interim department chair Roman Hryciw.   • What Will Help You Learn?
    Deba Dutta, new Scholar-in-Residence at the National Academy of Engineering, will lead a study on lifelong learning needs of engineering professionals. He will work with industry executives, academic administrators and other leaders to recommend new models for enhancing technical competencies and preparedness of the engineering work force.   • Walt Weber Honored
    Walter J. Weber, Jr., Gordon M. Fair and Earnest Boyce Distinguished University Professor and a professor of chemical engineering and of environmental engineering, was honored with the 2007 Lawrence K. Cecil Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. The award recognizes his 50-year career and international leadership in applying chemical engineering principles to solve significant environmental challenges.
