  • It's a Bird, It's a Plane
    Aerospace chair and Clarence L. "Kelly" Johnson Collegiate Professor of Aerospace Engineering Wei Shyy (MSE Aero '81, PhD '82) and colleagues are studying the aerodynamics of birds and other creatures to design flapping-wing aircraft. More External Link

    Associate Prof. Arthur Kuo (ME) has invented a knee brace that captures energy from walking and generates electricity. More External Link
  • Record-Setting Laser Beam
    Victor Yanovsky (EECS), Karl Krushelnick (NERS and EECS), Vladimir Chvykov (EECS) and Galina Kalinchenko (EECS) have created a record-setting laser beam with power 300 times the capacity of the entire U.S. electricity grid--concentrated to a speck about 100th the diameter of a human hair.     The Michigan Society of Automotive Engineers has been honored as the Class 1 Winner of the SAE International's 2007 Honeywell Outstanding Collegiate Branch Award.
  • National Academy of Engineering Elects Two
    Dennis Assanis, Jon R. and Beverly S. Holt Professor and Arthur F. Thurnau Professor (ME), and Pallab Bhattacharya, Charles M. Vest Distinguished University Professor and James R. Mellor Professor (EECS), have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, one of the highest honors in engineering.
