Student Leadership Dinner
Special Recognition Awards
Stephen W. Director, the Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering, presented Special Recognition Awards, which are supported through the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations and engineering student societies.
Harry B. Benford Award
Alan Becker, an undergraduate student in Industrial and Operations Engineering, received the 2003 Harry B. Benford Award, which recognizes a College of Engineering undergraduate or graduate student who has exhibited entrepreneurial flair and leadership ability, and who has made the most of the resources available at the College.
Elaine Harden Award
The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) received the 2004 Elaine Harden Award, which recognizes the Michigan Engineering student society that best exemplifies its ideals of leadership and service. Accepting the award were:

Outstanding Student Group Advisor Award
The Outstanding Student Group Advisor Award was bestowed on:

• William W. Schultz, professor, Mechanical Engineering, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

The Outstanding Student Group Advisor Award honors those who provide support to College of Engineering student organizations.
Arlen R. Hellwarth Award
The Arlen R. Hellwarth Award was received by:

- Emily Wolters, Nuclear Engineering. and Radiological Sciences
The award is presented to undergraduate student leaders whose outstanding service and accomplishments have created positive change in the College and University.
Distinguished Leadership Award

Student Honors Brunch
The 2004 Student Honors Brunch, held March 14, is the College of Engineering’s annual salute to outstanding academic achievers. Recipients are chosen by department and program faculty to recognize academic and personal excellence.
College of Engineering Prizes
Gary D. Herrin, assistant dean for undergraduate education, presented the College of Engineering’s prizes, which confer recognition of academic and personal excellence.
Mildred and Steele Bailey Prize
The Mildred and Steele Bailey Prize is presented to two outstanding seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to the University and the community. The recipients were:
- Omar Khalil, Biomedical Engineering
- Emily Wolters, Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences
J.A. Bursley Prize
Rahul Sathe, Mechanical Engineering student, received the J.A. Bursley Prize, which is presented to a senior in Mechanical Engineering who demonstrates scholastic achievement, leadership in co-curricular activities, and unusual promise for developing into a leader in his/her profession and community.
Clifton S. Goddin Prize
Eric Jankowski, Chemical Engineering, received the Clifton S. Goddin Prize, which recognizes a junior in Chemical Engineering who shows exceptional merit, based on qualities of leadership and scholarship.
Cooley Writing Prize
Brian Krieger, Mechanical Engineering, received the Cooley Writing Prize, which recognizes engineering undergraduates who author winning essays, fiction or drama in the Cooley Writing Contest.
Roger M. Jones Poetry Prize
Thomas Rainwater, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, received the Roger M. Jones Poetry Prize, which recognizes an undergraduate whose submission is awarded First Place in the Jones Poetry Contest.
Roger M. Jones Fellowship
Sara Grady, Interdisciplinary Engineering, received the Roger M. Jones Fellowship, which was established to support an outstanding graduating senior at the College of Engineering. The Jones Fellow is required to pursue studies in literature and humanistic disciplines at a British university in order to broaden and deepen his/her undergraduate technical education. All expenses are paid for the year in Britain.
George M. Landes Prize
The George M. Landes Prize is awarded to undergraduate engineering students who most clearly combine the highest standards of technical communication with technical excellence. The prizes were received by Chemical Engineering students:

William H. Mack Memorial Engineering Prize
Sandra Wyman, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, received the William H. Mack Memorial Engineering Prize, which recognizes an undergraduate student whose submission in a College-wide contest is judged to be the best all-around paper. The paper can use any literary form to illuminate any subject, except those which are strictly engineering subjects or technical reports.
Marian Sarah Parker Prize
The Marian Sarah Parker Prize was presented to:
- Yanhang (Helen) Ma, undergraduate student, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
- Marissa Ebersole, graduate student, Industrial and Operations Engineering
The Marian Sarah Parker Prize recognizes an outstanding senior woman student and an outstanding graduate woman student.
Distinguished Class Prizes
Stephen W. Director, the Robert J. Vlasic Dean of Engineering, awarded the College of Engineering’s Distinguished Class Prizes, which recognize the highest collegiate distinction at each undergraduate class level. Each prize is named by the donor who has endowed its honorarium.
Arthur B. Singleton Prize
Allison Kaeding received the Arthur B. Singleton Prize, which honors an outstanding first-year student who has demonstrated high academic achievement.
Charles F. Barth Jr. Prize
Chung Yeung Cho, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Organizational Studies, received the Charles F. Barth Prize, which recognizes an outstanding sophomore who has demonstrated academic excellence, leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to the University and community.
Henry Ford II Prize
Scott Hanson, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, received the Henry Ford II Prize, which is awarded to the student with the best academic record at the end of the junior year.
Hugh G. Rumler Prize
Eli Cooke, Industrial and Operations Engineering, received the Hugh G. Rumler Prize, which is presented to the outstanding senior on the basis of sincerity, integrity, goodwill and scholarship.
Awards
The College of Engineering Awards recognize academic and personal excellence and include a monetary stipend.

Andrew A. Kucher Award
The Andrew K. Kucher Award was received by:

The Andrew K. Kucher Award is presented to graduating seniors who’ve made outstanding contributions to engineering research while at the College.
Ivor K. McIvor Award
The Ivor K. McIvor Award was received by graduate student Ryan Scott Elliott, Aerospace Engineering, Scientific Computing, in recognition of outstanding scholastic and research performance in Applied Mechanics.
A.D. Moore Award
The A.D. Moore Award was presented to:

- Ryan Rindler, Industrial and Operations Engineering
The A.D. Moore Award is presented to an outstanding sophomore and junior who’ve demonstrated academic excellence and leadership qualities and have made outstanding contributions to co-curricular activities.

Tau Beta Pi Awards were presented to:

The Tau Beta Pi Awards recognize two outstanding students who best combine exemplary character and distinguished scholarship.
